Jemma Lekkas

senior physiotherapist

Senior Physiotherapist, Jemma Lekkas was born and raised in Blue Mountains, about 90mins west of Sydney.  In an exciting life change, Jemma has re-located to the ACT to join Fundamental Health and is excited to meet a whole range of new people and explore all that Canberra has to offer!

Jemma has been in private practice since 2012, working in the north-west and western Sydney before being very excited to be able to own and operate her own clinic back in her home grounds in the lower Blue Mountains, which she operated for the last 6 years.

Jemma’s interest and passion for Physiotherapy was born as a teenager when Jemma competed as an elite level athlete in Track and Field, most notably as a gold medal winning 400m runner. She maintains her associations with many sporting bodies to this day and her unique personal perspective as an athlete continues to inform her practice and treatment.

With almost 15 years of experience gained from a wide range of physiotherapy services including both public and private hospital, sports and private practice, Jemma has extensive knowledge in acute/chronic pain, workplace health and safety, metabolic physiotherapy, dance physiotherapy, repetitive strain injuries, on-field sport assessment and management, casting/bracing, fracture and post-surgical management and adolescent/growth issues.

Jemma has developed a special interest in Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy. She has also undertaken additional training in Integrated Dry Needling, which is a technique she often uses to compliment her patients’ treatment plans.

In 2017 Jemma acquired her qualification as a Clinical Pilates therapist. Her goal for 2023 is to attain her DMA Clinical Pilates Certification which recognises her training worldwide as a therapist experienced in the Movement Based Classification and Treatment (MBCT) approach, a standardised model for assessment and treatment of all musculoskeletal conditions.

Jemma also has experience working with Dance Schools providing Dance physiotherapy and pre-pointe assessments for young ballet dancers transitioning into their pointe shoes.

As an avid gardener, both indoors and outdoors, there is nothing she loves more than connecting with the earth to reset and relax. Jemma is a keen Mountain Bike rider and enjoys hitting the trails with her family whenever she can! If she is not elbow deep in dirt or flying downhill, you can find her with a hot cup of tea in hand as she potters on sewing and knitting projects for herself, her friends and family. Her hobby goal is to learn how to crochet! Don’t be afraid to have a chat about all things food with Jemma! As a 2nd generation Australian from both Greek and German backgrounds, she is an avid foodie and loves to cook and bake up a storm for friends and family. As Jemma potters, her very cute and energetic Blue Cattle Dogs, Jasper and Mackenzie, are not far from her side, very persistently looking to play fetch, at all hours of the day!

MOST OF ALL Jemma is passionate about helping her clients get back to living their life, fitter and stronger than before. She values active listening, patient input and ensuring that you get the most out of your physiotherapy journey in the most timely manner possible. Her main purpose is the betterment of YOUR HEALTH.
