8 in 10 people have suffered from lower back pain - how we can help

Lower back pain is one of the most common conditions we see in the clinic.

Lower back pain is described as any pain affecting the area between the bottom of the ribs and top of the buttocks. This pain can be sharp, dull, throbbing and mild to excruciating. Often stemming from multiple factors, such as:

-Muscle or ligament strain

-Disc herniation

-Arthritis

-Poor posture

-Injuries

-Nerve compression

-Stress

According to the World Health Organisation, lower back pain is the single leading cause of disability worldwide. With 8 in 10 people suffering at some point in their lives, and women affected more frequently than men. Though being a leading cause of disability, it is also shown to be the condition that responds best to rehabilitation, which is where we come in.

At Fundamental Health we have a range of practitioners and services to help improve and manage acute or chronic lower back pain.

Massage has shown to be beneficial for the management of subacute and chronic nonspecific lower back pain. This rings especially true when it is coupled with exercises and education.

Massage gives your body time to relax, helping with stress related tension. Manual massage techniques may help to improve muscle tension, mobility and blood flow in the affected area. It’s important to remember that the lower back is not alone - everything is attached and adapting in response to pain. Massage takes a holistic approach, assessing hips, upper back and shoulder restrictions as example to alleviate referral pain and adaptative tension changes.
